130 Amsterdam institutes gets subsidies from Art Fund

A total of 130 Amsterdam cultural organizations will be receiving subsidies from the municipal Arts Plan 2017 - 2020, the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts announced on Monday. One third of these organizations are new to the subsidies list, ANP reports. The Fund received 219 applications for subsidies. Six were rejected because their financial position was well enough that they could survive without a subsidy. These include the Nemo science center, which applied for a 225 thousand euro subsidy, and Pakhuis de Zwijger, which applied for 600 thousand euros. In total the Fund had 21.4 million euros to distribute. Theater Bellevue go the most with over 1.2 million euros, followed by Melkweg with 930 thousand euros and the Museum Rembrandthuis with 886,500. Of the 108 organizations who received a subsidy over the past four years, 23 will no longer receive one over the next four. The 130 organizations who will receive subsidies from the Fund are separate from the list of top 21 museums, theaters, concert halls and festivals in the city. These receive money directly from the municipality itself.
