Dutchman gunned down on Philippine island

Dutch man Henk Nuijts, 74, was gunned down on the Philippine island of Biliran while sitting in his car with his 11-year-old son and 22-year-old girlfriend on Sunday. Family and friends think his murder has to do with one of the two Filipino women in his life, AD reports. One of the victim's grandson's confirmed the victim's identity to AD. Nuijts, a 74-year-old Dutch businessman, was driving with his 11-year-old son Jake and his new 22-year-old girlfriend in Naval when a motorcyclist appeared next to the car and opened fire. Nuijts died in hospital. The boy was reportedly hit in his chest, but is not in life threatening danger. He is still in hospital. The girlfriend escaped unharmed. Family and friends think that one of the two Filipino women in Nuijts life - the 22-year-old girlfriend or the wife he recently separated from - was involved with his murder, Dutch grandson Stevie (25) explained to the newspaper. Stevie is a descendant of Nuijts from the time he was still married to a Dutch woman. Several decades ago Nuijts met Filipino woman Jigie and maried her. The two had a son, Jake - the boy who was in the car with Nuijts when he was killed. A few months ago Nuijts met his 22-year-old girlfriend and started a relationship, thereby breaking the one he had with Jigie, according to Stevie. Jigie came to the Netherlands to find work, though she and Nuijts were still married. In the Philippines it is said that Jigie is behind the murder, due to her failed relationship with Nuijts and the fact that she feels she got too little from a piece of ground he sold that was in both their names. But Stevie does not believe it. "Grandpa was quite stingy, and Jigie indeed thought she did not get enough. But she was not so upset about it. And why would she have my grandfather shot while her own son was also wounded and his new girlfriend not?" Family in the Netherlands thinks that the new girlfriend was the one behind the murder. "If you see how fast she wants to bury him", Stevie said. "Within one day! My mother, Henk's daughter, just got an email: your father is dead, do you want to come, he will be cremated tomorrow. That's weird right? She's in a hurry. But the cremation was stopped for now." According to the newspaper, the Philippine judiciary is investigating the murder. Neither woman is currently a suspect.
