Amsterdam residents roughed up in robbery
Three Amsterdam residents were injured when three armed men broke into their home on Bilderdijkkade during the early hours of Saturday morning. The residents were threatened, tied up and assaulted, the police said in a statement. Two of the three robbers were arrested.
According to the police, patrolling officers heard the residents call for help around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. They noticed three men running on Bilderdijkkade in the direction of Kinkerstraat. At about the same time, the police control room received a report of a robbery on Bilderdijkkade.
The patrolling officers chased after the running men and called in backup to help the victims. An officer quickly managed to grab hold of one of the men, but fell in the ensuing struggle and the suspect escaped again. He was arrested on a construction site at the end of the road.
Other officers saw a man matching the description of one of the other suspects walking in the neighbourhood. When approaching the man they saw that he was tense and sweating. He was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the robbery.
A helicopter and sniffer dogs were deployed in the third suspect, but to no avail. He is still at large. The police are looking for this man and call on witnesses to come forward.
One of the victims was treated at the scene by paramedics. The other two were taken to the hospital for treatment.
