Disturbed man brings Rotterdam train traffic to a halt

A disturbed man claiming to have a bomb led to the mass evacuation of Rotterdam Central Station on Friday. The police stopped all train traffic, including subway traffic. The man was arrested with no explosives on him. According to a police statement on the matter, the man called the police control room around 11:30 a.m. on Friday and said that he had a bomb and was dangerous. Numerous emergency services were called in and the station was placed on lock down. All travelers inside the station were evacuated and all rail traffic in and around Rotterdam was brought to a halt. By 12:20 p.m. a specialist police unit overpowered the man. He had no explosives on him. The man was identified as a 38-year-old Rotterdam resident. He is well known to the police, who deal with outbreaks of his mental states regularly. He will be questioned and then transferred to mental care. The police are currently thoroughly searching the station and investigating items left behind as a precaution. Train traffic should resume soon.
