Police gun down arguing man, 47, in Zoetermeer

The police shot a 47-year-old man from Ridderkerk while responding to reports of a loud argument in a home on Veenwortelvaart in Zoetermeer during the early hours of Sunday morning. According to the police statement on the incident, officers responded to the home at around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. On the street they saw a man running towards a car. The man fired several shots at the officers. He, a 27-year-old from Capelle aan den IJssel, was arrested with a bag containing cannabis tops and two firearms in his possession. The driver of the car sped away. The officers shot at the vehicle, injuring the driver. The 47-year-old man from Ridderkerk was taken to the hospital. In the home where the fight was reported, the police arrested a further four suspects - an 18 year old woman, a 19 year old man and 21 year old men, all from Zoetermeer. The forensic team did performed a thorough investigation in the home on Sunday. The Rijksrecherche is investigating the shooting, as is procedure in all cases where police officers fire their weapons.
