Drugs found hidden on scooter of drunk driver in burglary case
A more or less accidental drugs find led during a burglary investigation in Nieuwegein, led to the arrest of one drunk scooter driving man on Thursday morning, the police reports.
Around 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, officers noticed two men on a scooter in Parkhout. Both were dressed in dark clothing and wearing hoods. The officers decided to pull them over in connection with a burglary earlier that morning.
When the two on the scooter noticed the police, they sped off. The officers managed to bring the scooter to a stop after a short chase. The driver resisted vehemently when the officers tried to search the scooter and was arrested. There was nothing suspicious about the other person, who was sent away.
When searching the scooter, the police quickly realized why the suspect resisted. The compartment under the seat contained various types of hard and soft drugs. A pair of gloves were also found and confiscated because the police believe they may have been used in a burglary.
The driver was also under the influence of alcohol, did not have a driver's license and his scooter was technically not in order. He also has several outstanding speeding tickets.
The suspect is in custody while the police investigate the drugs and his scooter.
