Report: DuPont chemical workers had high rates of miscarriages, infertility

Women who worked in the DuPont Lycra factory in Dordrecht have an increased risk of struggling with pregnancy- or fertility problems, according to an investigation done by EenVandaag. EenVandaag questioned 35 former DuPont employees that worked in the Lycra factory. 33 of them experienced pregnancy problems - including miscarriages, stillbirths, and birth defects - fertility problems or cervical cancer. The current affairs program spoke to two experts who believe the substance DMAC is to blame for the women's problems. The solvent is a necessary product for the production of Lycra yarn, but is harmful to unborn children and reproductive organs. DuPont told EenVandaag that no former employees reported such problems. The company is currently also under investigation due to harmful emissions in their Teflon production.
