Amsterdam fake cocaine dealer gets 1 year sentence; Cleared of attempted manslaugter
Fake cocaine dealer Flip S. was sentenced to one year in prison by the court in Amsterdam on Tuesday. He was found guilty of selling white heroin as cocaine to three Danish tourists, landing them in the hospital, NU reports.
The court did clear S. of attempted manslaughter charges, because it could not be proven that he knew he was selling the three Danish tourists white heroin. S. was convicted of trafficking hard drugs. The court found that, knowing that the so-called "killer coke" was in circulation, S. should have tested his merchandise or warned the tourists to do so themselves.
The Public Prosecutor demanded 4 years in prison against S. S.'s lawyer demanded that his client be acquitted.
S. has been in custody for almost a year, so he will not be in prison for much longer.
The fake cocaine caused quite a commotion in Amsterdam late 2014 and early 2015. Three British tourists died and more than a dozen others were injured.
S. turned himself into the police after recognizing himself in surveillance camera footage the police released. The footage showed him selling drugs to the three Danish tourists. S. confessed to selling them the drugs, but denies that he knew it was white heroin and not cocaine. He also maintains that he was not involved in any of the other cases.
The Public Prosecutor dropped murder charges against S. for the three British tourists' deaths due to insufficient evidence.
