Icy roads weather alert extended; Temps to rise tomorrow

The winter weather is still holding on in the northern provinces of the Netherlands and the KNMI extended its code read weather warning for Groningen until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and for Drenthe and Friesland until 3:00 p.m., after that the warning scales down to code orange. Showers are expected in the three northern provinces around 2:00 p.m., which will again cause icy roads. "Great danger of disturbances and harm through slickness. Major risks to road users. Risk of major disruption of public transport. Do not travel if it is not absolutely necessary", the KNMI writes. In Overijssel and Flevoland a code yellow weather warning for slickness applies until 2:00 p.m. In Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland and the Wadden area there is a code yellow warning for strong winds up to 100 kilometers per hour. But the end is in sight, according to the KNMI. Tonight the temperatures will be somewhat above freezing, especially in the inland parts of the country. There is still some chance of rain in the north, which could cause more icy roads. Tomorrow will be dry and many places will even see some sunshine. The afternoon temperatures will be around a mild 7 degrees.
