Slippery roads force school closures across northeastern Netherlands

Dozens of schools in Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe and Overijssel are closed today due to the icy weather and slippery roads, RTL Nieuws reports. A large part of the schools in the northern provinces already decided that they would be closed today on Tuesday afternoon, based on the weather forecasts. The roads are too slick for students to safely travel to and from school. A number of other schools decided to start later, giving the icy roads more time to melt. The University of Groningen is open as usual - all lectures and examinations will still take place.
