Survey: Thousands of teachers victims of assault

Nearly 10 thousand teachers at elementary- and high schools fell victim to physical violence from students and parents during the previous school year, according to a survey done by AD and DUO among teachers.. Some 5 percent of all teachers indicated that they were confronted with physical violence, like punches, kicks and shoves. 18 percent were the target of verbal abuse, threats or harassment. More than a quarter indicated that they noticed an increase in aggression over the past three years. The most commonly mentioned reason for aggressive behavior is parents and students disagreeing with marks or school advice. Teachers reporting absence from school to the school attendance official or imposing punishment may also provoke violence.
