Sentence reduced to 8 years in kick boxer shooting
The Amsterdam court reduced Said el K.'s sentence from 12 years to 8 years in prison for shooting kick boxer Youssef Bensellam and paralyzing him from the neck down in 2012, Het Parool reports.
When the case was first tried, El K. was convicted of attempted murder. On appeal however, the court decided that premeditation could not be proven and instead convicted him of attempted manslaughter.
Said el K. is one half of the criminals known in Amsterdam as The Twins. In the early morning hours of June 27th 2012, Said el K. was in the cafe The Corner with his twin brother and some friends. Bensellam parked in front of the cafe to pick up a cousin. Said el K. walked out of the cafe and shot Bensellam through the open car window. The bullet went through his neck and back and paralyzed him from the neck down.
