Racist Facebook comments prompt anti-Zwarte Piet group’s police complaint

Protest group Kick Out Zwarte Piet is pressing charges against people who left racist comments on a photo the group posted on Facebook. The above photo was taken on Saturday after the group protested at the Sinterklaas arrival in Meppel and posted on the National Institute Dutch Slavery History and Heritage, known by the acronym NiNsee's Facebook page. The photo attracted thousand of responses, some positive but some very negative. "Hope that bus crashes into a tree on the way back", "No more blackface, you call, that is also the only thing I see in this picture. Oddly enough you resent your own face", "Can't you just drive straight to Schiphol, away with you bunch of idiots" and "Choke on a pepernoot... Stupid morons", are just some of the thousands of comments left on the photo. "We must send a signal", Jerry Afriyie, spokesperson of the protest group, said to broadcaster NOS. "It simply can not be like this. You can explain why you disagree, or that you're upset. But you can not treat people in such a racist manner." The group hopes that the Public Prosecutor will fine those who left racist comments, similar to the 360 euro fines imposed on those who posted racist comments about a selfie posted by Leroy Fer last year. https://www.facebook.com/ninsee.project/photos/a.1441508139439135.1073741828.1440177952905487/1650052028584744/?type=3&theater
