Boy, 14, uses gun to rob elderly couple, turns self in

A 14-year-old boy attempted to rob an elderly couple at gunpoint in their home on Keltenoord in Rotterdam on Monday evening. He turned himself in at the police station in The Hague later that same night. The teenager entered the elderly couple's home by posing as a buyer interested in a piece of jewelry they advertised on Marktplaats, according to the police. He inspected closely inspected the jewelry, but when it was time to pay, he pulled a gun instead of a wallet. The old man told the boy that he expected a robbery and had already informed the police and the boy fled in a panic, without the jewelry. The police launched a search for the teenager and found two young men close to the scene, one carrying a firearm. They were arrested, but later released after it became clear that they had no involvement in the attempted robbery. The young culprit's parents took him to the police station in The Hague later on Monday night and he turned himself in. He is in custody for questioning.
