Curacao government resigns after 1 mo. in office

Curacao Prime Minister Ben Whiteman has handed in his government's resignation to the governor in Willemstad after only one month in office. Whiteman's coalition of four parties lost their majority in parliament on Friday when parliamentarian Marilyn Moses withdrew her support, broadcaster NOS reports. Over the weekend the coalition tried to glue itself back together by gaining support from one of the opposition parties, but this failed. Governor Lucille George-Wout will now investigate whether it makes sense to attempt a formation, or whether elections should be organized. NOS believes that Curacao can expect early elections in February or March, six months earlier than planned.
