Van Gogh “Field of Wild Flowers” sells for $54 million

Vincent van Gogh's landscape "Field of Wild Flowers" sold for a massive 54 million dollars at an auction at Sotheby's in New York on Thursday evening, Bloomberg reports. "Field of Flowers" was painted in Arles France in 1889. The work is part of the Belgian Louis van Evelyn Franck's collection and had the highest presale estimate in the auction - between 50 million and 70 million dollars. According to Bloomberg, the painting was sold by Van Gogh's heirs, after they won it beck from the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam with a restitution settlement in 2008. Since then it has been displayed in the Gasgosian Gallery and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
