Facebook, accused of blocking revenge porn case, headed to court

Facebook is taking the 21 year old woman from Werkendam involved in the revenge porn case to court because the company does not want to allow a Dutch forensic IT investigator access to there systems. The woman's lawyer, Thomas van Vugt, said this to the Telegraaf. In June the woman, Chantal, took Facebook to court because she wanted information on who posted a sex tape featuring herself and her ex-boyfriend on the social media site. The court ordered Facebook to give her the information within two weeks. The social media company did not do so, stating that the information has been deleted. The court then decided that an external expert should look at the Facebook systems to determine whether this is indeed the case. Facebook suggested an Irish investigator, as Ireland is where the company is located. Chantal is insisting on a Dutch investigator. "Facebook will only allow an obscure Irish investigator in the company, in which my client has little confidence. This while her life has been turned on its head", the lawyer said to the Telegraaf. "We proposed Mark Hoekstra, a renowned forensic IT expert, who has already done several fraud investigations, including on behalf of investigative services. The Irish investigator is a completely unknown figure who runs a little office with his wife." Facebook is demanding that the court appoint the Irish investigator. Chantal has submitted a counter claim asking that Hoekstra be appointed. The case will appear in court on Friday.
