Video: English cyclist rescued after wedging head into fence

An English cyclist managed to get his head stuck between the narrow bars of a fence after crashing into it while on riding his bike. The accident happened Friday morning just after midnight in Amsterdam while the man was riding on Veemkade along the IJ river. First responders arriving on scene helped free the man, who was then examined by paramedics on stand-by. He was treated and released at the scene. There was some trouble in finding the man on the dark, two-kilometer road that also includes cycling lanes and a promenade. The cyclist was able to reach his mobile phone after the accident to call emergency services, though he was not able to initially provide an accurate location. It is not clear how the man managed to get his head stuck. By his own admission, the man was just not paying close attention, according to the Parool. The dark black fence is used to close off part of the Veemkade behind the Passenger Terminal. A couple riding on a scooter at night on the Veemkade in May 2013 crashed into a short, all-black post used as a lane divider. The 32-year-old woman died from her injuries, and her 39-year-old husband was critically injured in the crash. Many of the posts have since been painted white at the top, and fitted with blinking red lighting.
