NS not refunding passengers who forget to check out

Public transport companies such as NS, Arriva and Connexxion, are not putting much effort into refunding passengers who forgot to check out. This is according to the Telegraaf on Monday, based on the newspaper's own investigation and calculations. Last year it was revealed that public transporters annually "earn" about 16 million euros from passengers who forget to check out. About a year ago the public transporters promised that they would invest this money into things that would benefit the travelers, but according to the newspaper, only a few million have been invested in such passenger facilities. facilities. If a passenger forgets to check out, he or she loses the deposit on their public transport smart-card. With the NS this can amount to between 10 to 20 euros, with the bus, metro or tram, the amount is around 4 euros, NRC reports. In principle it is possible to have this money refunded, but usually only with great hassle. With the NS, for example, it takes up to 24 hours, can only be done 3 times a year and the customer has to fill out a form.
