Speeder escapes after ditching passenger in high-speed chase

An attempt to issue a speeding ticket resulted in a high speed chase on the A10 highway and a passenger being left behind. The speeder and another passenger managed to escape on foot. At around 4:45 a.m. on Monday morning the police caught a car driving at 160 kilometers per hour in a 100 kilometers per hour zone on the A10 highway at Durgerdam. The officers signaled the driver to follow them. At first it seemed that the driver was following the instructions, but he soon sped away. The police gave chase, sometimes driving at speeds up to 190 kilometers per hour. The driver took the exit at Diemen and drove over Gooischeweg in the direction of Duivendrecht. The car crashed into a police car at Bijlmerdreef. The driver and a passenger fled on foot. Another passenger - a 20 year old - was left behind in the vehicle. The police launched an extensive search, but so far the driver and fleeing passenger have not been found. The reason for their fight is still unknown. The car has been confiscated. According to the police, the owner can retrieve the car upon payment of towing and storage costs. The police have also made an official report against the registered owner of the car for all traffic violations committed during the chase. The total fine is expected to run in the thousands of euros.
