New arrest in health exec's 2014 murder
The police arrested 44 year old Dennis van den B. on Tuesday. They believe that he was the intended target of the assassination that killed mental health director Rob Zweekhorst last year.
Van den B. is suspected of being involved in importing 300 kilograms of cocaine in the port of Rotterdam, NOS reports. This shipment of drugs was intercepted by the police in December 2013. Van den B. allegedly worked with a corrupt customs officer on this deal. The customs officer was arrested in April.
Earlier this year the police concluded that Zweekhorst murder was linked to this drug bust. He was shot and killed in Berkel en Rodenrijs on New Year's Day 2014 - shortly after the police intercepted the shipment of cocaine. The police believe that Zweekhorst was mistaken for someone else when he was murdered.
Van den B.'s former partner was also arrested on Tuesday. She is suspected of money laundering. The police also searched several properties in the Netherlands, Curacao and Aruba and confiscated a firearm, ammunition and cash.
