Police: Officers shot drug-addled suspect fleeing arrest
A man was shot in the leg by a police officer while he was trying to flee arrest in Susteren on Sunday night. According to the police, the man was clearly under the influence of drugs and tried to continue his flight even after he was shot. He was arrested on suspicion of destruction of property.
A woman called the police around 10:30 p.m. and reported that a man hat set off a firework bomb in front of their house which damaged the front door. The woman's husband followed the culprit, who fled on foot, and was able to tell the patrolling police officer where he was.
The officers found the man running on Rijksweg Zuid, at the edge of Susteren. The officers told the suspect to stop, but he ignored them. The suspect also ignored the warning shot fired by an officer. He was then shot in the leg. The suspect was arrested around 11:00 p.m.
