Bystanders save woman, stop Almelo carjacking
Helpful bystanders managed to stop a hijacking in Almelo on Tuesday night. Both of the hijackers, two men from Den Ham aged 18 and 22 years, were arrested.
At around 21:00 on Tuesday night witnesses noticed to men standing at the intersection of Van Rechteren Limpursingel and Hofstraat. A car stopped at the traffic light. One of the men got into the car and pushed the female driver outside.
One of the witnesses immediately ran towards the car to try and prevent the theft. When the hijacker saw him, he got out of the car and ran into Hofstraat. Several other bystanders detained the other man.
One of the bystanders immediately called 112 and the police were able to quickly spread the description of the fleeing hijacker among patrolling officers. A short time later officers found the 22 year old man in Gravenallee and arrested him. The other suspect, the 18 year old man, was also arrested.
