Amsterdam attack sends elderly woman to hospital
With reporting by Zack Newmark.
A 78-year old woman was attacked and injured on Herenmarkt in Amsterdam on Sunday evening, police say. Witnesses say the man kicked her hard, breaking her leg, after the woman told him off, according to authorities.
It's possible she told him off for shouting while on the phone. The suspect ran off after the attack, and his identity is unknown.
Investigators have not spoken with the woman, who was expected to undergo surgery, police told the NL Times.
The attacker is described as a Dutch-speaking white man with styled shoulder-length blonde hair falling a bit over his face and ear, police say. He was a "student type," wearing a brown and orange jacket or a blazer. He was wearing white in-ear headphones leading police to believe he may have been screaming into an iPhone at the time.
Police are asking any witnesses, or anyone with pictures and video of the incident to contact them directly.
