Sex workers deserve tax breaks, bank accounts: Labour MP

PvdA parliamentarian Marith Rebel thinks that as sex work is a legal profession, sex workers should be treated as fully fledged freelancers, NOS reports. This means that they should be able to open bank accounts and deduct the cost of clothing and care from tax. What led to this is Triodos Bank refusing to open a bank account for sex workers' interest group PROUD, stating that the bank does not provide services for " “businesses that find their activities in pornography”." Rebel wants Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Finance to talk to banks about this. The VVD also wants improvement in the legal and social position of sex workers. The party made proposals to achieve this during the treatment of the change in the Prostitution Act. Among other things, the amendment increases the minimum age for sex workers to 21 years. The amendment is currently still pending in the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament.
