Greens want 1500 more windmills along highways
GroenLinks wants the government to make the land along highways available for more windmills. According to the party, highways form logical lines for windmills to be placed and it will be "a big step towards more clean energy".
"We want to get rid of coal oil and gas. We want our energy supply to be less dependent on dubious regimes, we want to prevent earthquakes in Groningen and we want to fight climate change." GroenLinks leader Bram van Oijk says on the party's website. "So we need to switch to clean energy. Wind energy is the best option for that."
The party states that about half of the Netherlands' 2,300 kilometers of highways will be suitable for the construction of windmills. This excludes land close to residential areas and protected natural areas. "We think that there is place for more than 1,500 additional windmills. Those can provide 3 million households with clean energy. That is double the current production in the Netherlands."
