Shots fired as car thief evades police

Shots were fired during a chase between the police and a car thief in Ospel this morning. At around 05:00 am the police received a report that a car was stolen from Nederweert and deployed several patrols to look for the thief. The thief was found and the situation developed into a car chase. The police fired shots on Tolberweg during the chase. The suspect managed to escape. The police are not sure whether this involves only one suspect or if others are also involved. The are was closed off and a helicopter and sniffer dogs were deployed to search for the suspect. So far the search has yielded no results.
