Security Service not interfering in MH17 investigation: Officials

The opposition in the Tweede Kamer (lower house of parliament) this morning demanded clarification on allegations that the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) is hindering the investigation into the cause of the MH17 disaster, De Telegraaf reports. Yesterday NOS reported that the AIVD is withholding information from the police team that is conducting the criminal investigation into the disaster, based on anonymous sources. This reportedly caused frustration in the police and Public Prosecutor as they need the information to do their jobs. The Cabinet strongly denied these allegations. "That is nonsense", a spokesperson for Minister Ronald Plasterk (Internal Affairs) said. "The cooperation is good, we share everything we have to." A spokesperson for Minister Ivo Opstelten (Security and Justice) agrees. "There are two officers who have access to what the AIVD has." In a joint press release the Public Prosecutor, police and the AIVD also emphatically denies that an information regarding the MH17 disaster is being withheld. "Cooperation within the investigation is good. Everything is aimed at determining the cause of the disaster and to bring those responsible to justice." According to the press release, the AIVD is surprised by NOS's report that they are hindering the criminal investigation, NOS sources are misinformed.
