Nearly 50 arrests in Rotterdam for Europa League match
The police arrested a total of 42 suspects around the AS Roma vs Feyenoord match in Rotterdam yesterday. Most of the arrests were made for offenses such as failing to comply with an order, fighting, lighting fireworks and possession of weapons (mostly knives).
An Italial man was injured in one confrontation on Rochussenstraat. Several men attacked him. Two police officers quickly managed to break up the fight. The victim had to be treated in hospital. Both policemen also obtained slight injuries, but were able to continue with their duties. One suspect was arrested.
The police also detained a group of 83 Italian hooligans at the police station for several hours before the match as a precaution. The police escorted them to De Kuip shortly before the start of the match.
All in all the police are satisfied with their efforts yesterday. Police officers were able to break up all fights before they devolved into mass brawls or large disturbances.
