Millions given to fight youth unemployment

An extra 17.8 million euros will be made available for the ongoing actions aimed at fighting youth unemployment in the Netherlands. State Secretary Jetta Klijnsma of Social Affairs and Employment requested that this European money be made available to be used for ESF-Action Youth Projects this year. These projects are part of the regional approach to unemployment. "The latest figures confirm once again how persistent the problem of youth unemployment is." Klijnsma said. "This shows that the economy is recovering, but also that we are not there yet. Too many young people have trouble finding a job." Last year the central municipalities received about 41 million euros from the European Social Fund to support inititiatives aimed at young people who are unemployed as a result of the crisis. These actions, which would have expired halfway through this year, are now extended by the extra 17.8 million that will be made available.
