Football hooligans should lose their passports: MP
According to CDA leader Sybrand Buma, hooligans who misbehave at a football game abroad, should lose their passports so that they cannot attend other matches abroad, Het Parool reports.
Buma made this statement in the TV program Vandaag de Dag following the Feyenoord-supporters riots in Rome. Several dozen suspects have already appeared in court in Italy. Buma said he is ashamed of the hooligans' behavior.
"Rome has been violated today", Paolo Masini, an Italian government Councillor, said about the riots in a statement, The Guardian reports. "This is pure and simple hooliganism." Livio Ricciardelli, a member of the city government, thinks that Feyenoord should apologize publicly and pay for the damage their fans caused to the city.
The Dutch embassy in Rome released a statement saying that it would fully cooperate with the Italian authorities in punishing the perpetrators. The embassy said that there is "no place for violence in football". Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi called the riots "an insult to civilized society". During an interview he indicated that he would take the issue to European football authorities. He also said that he appreciated the embassy's statement on the events.
