KLM-Air France loses €200 million; 800 jobs slashed
Air France-KLM sufferd a loss of 198 million euro last year. This is a lot smaller than the 1.8 billion euro loss the airline suffered in 2013, NOS reports.
The French-Dutch airline transported a total of 77.5 million passengers last year. According to CEO Alexandre de Juniac, the budget cuts of recent years were effective. If the cost of the pilot strike is not taken into account, the gross profit increased by 50 percent in three years.
The airline will keep making budget cuts in the coming years. Air France will introduce a voluntary redundancy scheme which the company expects will result in about 800 employees leaving. The company also wants to reduce costs by about 1.5 percent annually between now and 2017.
