Remorseful robbers jailed after floral apology

Two suspected robbers from Tilburg did something surprising on Monday in the village of Galder, North Brabant. They expressed their regret for committing a burglary of the Bijl Groentechniek garden center, and brought the stolen garden tools back with a bouquet of flowers. Despite apologizing for the break-in, they were promptly arrested by police. The burglars broke into the business through a smashed window at 6.30 a.m. on Sunday. The stolen goods included four thousand euros worth of trimmers, chainsaws and leaf blowers, according to the owner Bram Bijl, who spoke with Omroep Brabant. The burglars were caught on surveillance camera and the owner decided to put a picture of the two on Facebook in order the catch the perpetrators. Monday morning the men, aged 27 and 32, appeared on the sidewalk with flowers. "They were filled with remorse. I have no idea whether they came up to me because they had seen themselves on the internet," Bijl says. After this, the owner called the police. It is not yet certain that the two are the burglars. A police spokesperson said that the identity of the perpetrators will need to be matched up against the security camera footage.
