Uber offers signing bonus to Dutch drivers despite legal issues

Alternative taxi service Uber, is now offering a 100 euro sign-up bonus to new UberPop drivers. The campaign comes as a surprise, seeing as the rideshare taxi-service was deemed illegal by the court in The Hague. UberPop allows customers, by means of the mobile application, to locate a private vehicle heading to his desired destination and to be transported there at half the cost of a taxi. A court in The Hague ruled that anyone providing this taxi service without the applicable license, is doing so illegally. Uber Director, Niek van Leeuwen has deemed new subscriber incentive a necessity due to a lack of drivers, and a high demand for taxi services. Participating unlicensed chauffeurs run the risk of a 1,500 euro fine, should police discover them providing this service in exchange for money. UberPop has since been banned in France, based on the same objections.
