Netherlands to begin drug testing athletes

The doping tests of athletes will be regulated in the Netherlands. Minister Edith Schippers of Health, Welfare and Sports announced this yesterday in a to the Second Chamber. Thus far the doping policy was left to the sports associations and the Doping Authority, the now private anti-doping organization in the Netherlands. This institution will now become an independent administrative body, as will be regulated in the new law. The activities of the Doping Authority, especially performing tests, conducting research and providing information, will now have a legal basis. It will hold the same powers. Minister Schippers also finds the law necessary to establish ruled for the privacy of athletes.
