Dementia care whistleblower dead at 82

Ben Oude Nijhuis, the man who denounced the quality of healthcare institutions in The Hague earlier this month on Pauw, has died at the age of 82. He was in the broadcast with State Secretary Martin van Rijn of Public Health. Oude Nijhuis's son announced his death in the television program Pauw last night. According to the son, Oude Nijhuis suffered a brain hemorrhage over the weekend. Ben Oude Nijhuis and his neighbor Joop van Rijn (State Secretary van Rijn's father) recently raised the alarm about the state of health care in the nursing home where their demented wives stay. Oude Nijhuis appeared on Pauw with the Secretary of State that same evening. Oude Nijhuis would have appeared on the show again to night, to discuss the parliamentary debate about health care. The editor said that they will be commemorating "a brave man".
