Islamic terrorist warning issued in Jakarta

The Netherlands embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia issued a warning for Dutch people traveling to Indonesia. According to the warning, Dutch people traveling abroad are at increased risk of violence and attacks because of the Netherlands' participation in the fight against terrorism organization Islamic State (ISIS). The warning asks people to stay alert and states that there is an increased risk of terrorist activities throughout Indonesia, especially in places where many people gather. Several attacks have occurred in Indonesia in the past. In 2003 The Marriott Hotel in Jakarta was attacked as well as the Australian embassy in the same city in 2004. The Ritz Carlton and the Marriott Hotel was also attacked in 2009. The warning states that the Indonesian security authorities are effective in combating terrorist threats, but there remains a high risk of terrorist activities. The embassy urges people to stay in contact in emergency situations. Travelers can register at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will be enable the embassy to contact them in case of an emergency.
