Newspapers tear into Dutch football after loss

The morning newspapers were not kind to the Dutch team after the 2-0 defeat in Reykjavik on Tuesday. De Telegraaf called it a "historic defeat". Coach Guus Hiddink especially got the cold shoulder. "Hiddink's team fell apart like a team of damsels. Trumped by Iceland, an island with about 2 percent of the population of the Netherlands." the Volkskrant wrote. "Crisis at Oranje" the AD's headline read on the front page. According to the paper Hiddink looked vulnerable and like he had no inspiration "both in his presentation and in his coaching, as if the sacred fire is gradually extinguished in his life and limb."
