Student held in fatal stabbing bullied for years: lawyer
The student accused of stabbing a fellow student to death at a school in Voorburg, Zuid Holland, was constantly bullied at school, his lawyer said Monday. The 16-year-old boy is suspected of stabbing a 15-year-old boy named Wesley at Corbulo College during an argument.
“Even last Tuesday, my client was chased down,” the suspect’s lawyer, Haje Weisfelt, told broadcaster NOS. The young man had been bullied repeatedly since 2006.
Many students denied this, the broadcaster said, but the accused’s friends agreed with the lawyer’s remarks.
The incident took place late Friday afternoon on the school’s playground. Police say the young victim was stabbed in the neck.
Presiding over the early stages of the case, a magistrate ordered the suspect held by police for an additional two weeks as investigators collect evidence.
A second 16-year-old was arrested for giving the knife to the suspect, but prosecutors have not yet charged him.
