Arrest in Amsterdam center mistaken ID murder
The Amsterdam criminal E.L. (26) has been arrested for the murder of Stefan Regalo Eggermont.
The investigation assumes that E.L. belongs to one of the two camps in the Amsterdam gangland who has been fighting a bloody feud. Shortly after the murder of Stefan Regalo Eggermont, the investigation received a tip that a probable murder weapon can be found in L's home.
Stefan Regalo Eggermont was murdered on the night of 12 to 13 July in Conradstraat. The police suspect that he was mistaken for someone else, as he has no link to the Amsterdam underworld.
L. was arrested for possession of weapons. Last Tuesday he was formally charged for involvement in the liquidation after the Dutch Forensic Institute determined that Regalo Eggermont was indeed killed with the weapon in question.
The accused belonged to the group around the career criminal Gwenette Martha, who was killed in May. That group is a rival camp to those around Benaouf A. Thus far this conflict has caused ten deaths since it started in 2012.
The fact that the weapon that supposedly killed Regalo Eggermont was found in L. possession, strengthens the idea that the shooter did not mean to kill him, but Omar Lkhorf. Omar Lkhorf is the borther of Youssef Lkhorf, who had already been killed on December 29th 2012. The brothers Lkhorf were known confidants of Benaouf A.
On the night of July 12th Regalo Eggermont had been watching football with his brother and a friend. He parked his blue Fiat Punto in a spot where neighbor Omar Lkhorf often parks his blue Fiat Punto. Omar Lkhorf arrived home about half an hour before.
E.L.'s lawyer Niels van Wersch confirms that he has been charged with the murder of Regal Eggermont. "That the weapon was found with him, yes, but he denies being the shooter. He also definitely does not meet the description that witnesses gave of the shooter. They described a light colored man. L. is as dark as you can be."
