Timmermans blames Russia for ISIS problem

At the Iraq Summit in Paris yesterday, Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Frans Timmermans outed strong criticism against Russia for doing too little to aid global actions against the rise of the Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq, according to the Algemeen Dagblad. The AD writes that Minister Timmermans specifically pointed to Russia as the reason why the efforts to contain the growth of the terrorist movement has not been successful. "If Russia had not continuously blocked the Security Council at the moment the action was necessary, we would not now have an IS problem", the AD quotes Timmermans as saying. The Summit pulled together 30 countries and organizations to discuss the necessary following strategy against the actions of IS. According to the AD, Timmermans' Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov said before the talks that IS should have been stopped earlier. Timmermans replied that Russia is the one who made action from the Security Council impossible, and holds Moscow accountable for a large part of the rise of ISIS in the Arabic region.
