Initial MH17 safety report readied

The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) will publish its report about the first results of the investigation into the MH17 plane crash tragedy in Ukraine on Tuesday, revealing the initial data collected by the Board on the basis of the sources available, De Telegraaf reports. The report will detail information gathered from satellite imaging, voice and data recordings of the crashed plane, radar images and information from air traffic control. Due to the instability of the area surrounding the crash site, the OVV has not been able to do any investigation on the ground. Pro-Russian separatists hold claim to the surrounding area, and fighting between rebels and the Ukrainian army have made in-depth investigation nearly impossible. A spokesperson for the Board tells De Telegraaf that these hindrances have not hampered the OVV from drawing first conclusions about the tragedy. Investigations will continue in the coming months before a final report is put together. This should be finalized and ready for publication within a year after the crash, the OVV says.
