Playground ban for teen rapist

A 13 year old boy has been sentenced by a court in Utrecht to three months' imprisonment and a playground ban for the rape of a 10 year old girl in 2013, De Telegraaf reports. In addition the boy will receive mandatory treatment to prevent recurrence. The court also gave him a teaching penalty of forty hours, which aims to teach the boy what behavior is acceptable. He is also forbidden to make any contact with his victim, and will not be allowed in the neighborhood playground on Wednesdays and Sundays, so that his victim can play undisturbed and without fear of encountering her attacker. During the handling of the case it became obvious that the rape had a tremendous impact on the girl. She does not dare to play outside and prefers to stay somewhere on the weekends, rather than staying home. She always wants to know where her parents are, De Telgraaf reports. At the time of the attack, the boy had only been living in the Netherlands for one year. He grew up in Somalia where he suffered great losses. At the age of two he lost his mother. Five years later his father was abducted and killed and in 2007 his aunt's family, who lived next door, was massacred. According to experts the boy may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the many losses in his life and his uncertain future.
