Following the incident last week in which the suspect, Michael van H., assaulted a woman on Weg tot de Wetenschap in Utrecht, the police launched an extensive investigation. On Thursday, the police and the Public Prosecution Service released a photo of the man. On Friday, they announced that he was driving a white Kia Stonic with a green roof and a license plate reading H-445-KZ and released images of the suspect’s car.

On Friday at 10:45 p.m., the police subdued and arrested Michael van H. at Maastricht station. The previously wanted vehicle was found and confiscated in Roermond. The criminal investigation department in Utrecht continues investigating the crimes committed by van H.

Michael van H. also has a prior conviction for rape and was sentenced to three years in prison and mandatory treatment in a psychiatric facility for the crime in Dordrecht in 2015. At the age of 27, he raped a woman in Overkamppark. Van H. had approached the woman on the Transvaalstraat while driving a scooter. He then threatened her with a knife and raped her, according to Rijnmond. Van H. had filmed the rape with his cell phone.
