Romanian men busted in forced prostitution scheme

On Friday August 15th two men, age 21 and 25, were arrested in Leeuwarden on suspicion of human trafficking. Two women, age 16 and 17, were also arrested for having false travel documentation. All four suspects are of Romanian descent. The police's human trafficking team received information that women were being forced to work as prostitutes, which lead to these arrests. The women showed the police false documents and told them that they were of age. The actual documents later proved that the girls are underage. During the interrogation it became clear that the women were being forced to prostitute themselves. The women have been captured as victims of human trafficking. The two male suspects are being held at the police station for further investigation. Meanwhile the magistrate has ordered the detention of the two suspects. Human trafficking is defined as people being forced to prostitute themselves or work in inhumane conditions while others profit from it. It is a serious violation of human rights and one of the most severe forms of crime. Find more information regarding the police's approach in the fight against human trafficking on their website.
