Dutch football wants video ref

Dutch football association, KNVB, is going to propose the use of a new type of in-game policing technology to FIFA and IFAB at the end of this year. The KNVB wants to see whether it is possible to assist the referee during the game with video images, the NRC reports. This video-referee would assist the referee in his judgments throughout the game through direct contract. The KNVB has to see whether this would delay the game too much, and is testing the technology with several matches in the cup tournament and the under 21-league. This requires permission from FIFA and game rules commission IFAB. At this moment, the vide-referee works in the background, and is not in direct contact with the referee. The KNVB has been researching whether video arbitration makes a difference to the game, and says that this was the case during four games.
