No jail for stolen exam students

A large portion of the students who made use of the exams stolen at the Ibn Ghaldoun school in Rotterdam last year have avoided jail time, but may have to do community service. This comes from an announcement published by the Public Prosecution Authority (OM) today. The Ministry of Justice says that around 60 names of students suspected of using the exams were given to the Education Inspection. The OM wants 37 of these students to do community service, up to 60 hours. Three youths will be sent to Halt, a rehabilitation center for juvenile delinquents, and one youth has to stand before a juvenile court. Twenty cases are being dropped, as these youths announced themselves last year, and made use of the so-called 'repent arrangement'. The youths who were involved in the theft and circulation of the exams went before the judge in January. They were sentenced to jail time and community service of up to 170 hours. A minor suspect was determined guilty, but did not get a sentence. The exam theft happened last year, it was noticed when final exams for French appeared online prior to the exam date. In the end, 27 vwo, havo and vmbo exams appeared to have been stolen from Ibn Ghaldoun, making this the largest case of exam fraud to date.
