Public help sought in crime boss' murder

Police in Amsterdam have put out a public call for any information known about the escape route of the people who killed top criminal Gwenette Martha on Thursday, the 22nd of May in Amstelveen. Martha was executed on the corner of the Amsterdamseweg and the Van Spaenstraat. According to the police, the culprits sped off in a dark BMW series 3 or 5, over the Amsterdamseweg in the direction of the Amstelveenseweg. Police especially want to contact the driver of a car who was overtaken and then cut off as the culprits drove on the left side of the road near the Kalfjeslaan. There were also reportedly people walking along that road, on the side of the Amsterdamse Bos forest. These witnesses may have key information and are asked to contact the police, as well as anyone who saw a dark BMW series 3 or 5 traveling at high speeds. The police reports that a burning vehicle was discovered later that evening on the Venserweg in Diemen. It is possible that this vehicle may have been abandoned by the suspects, who may have then transfered to another car. According to Martha's lawyer, Nico Meijering, the criminal's murder was inevitable, and that everyone could see it coming, AT5 reports. Head Commissioner Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg tells AT5 on the program Het Verhoor that "we are talking about someone who was convicted due to weapons, whitewashing and drugs", and that Martha made €200,000 a week from his criminal activities. According to Aalbersberg, Martha was ordered to pay around €16 million back from his drugs activities. Witnesses to the notorious criminal's assassination, or anyone who saw anything of possible use to the police investigation are asked to contact them at 0900-8844, or anonymously via 0800-7000.
