Cat torturer surrenders to police

Fearing a backlash from angry viewers, a man who uploaded footage of himself abusing a cat, surrendered to police this morning.

Police say the 27-year-old man from Hoofddorp was arrested for animal cruelty.

The film that appeared online over the weekend prompted numerous angry reactions. It shows the man whose name police did not give placing his knee on top of a black-and-white cat; he only gets up when the cornered animal snarls loudly, after which it jumps out of the shot. Amazingly the tormentor then turns the camera to himself and takes a full shot of his face before he turns it off.

“Unbelievable that there are still people who underestimate the power of the internet,” someone reacted on an online message board. Within shot his name and city were known and people were proposing driving up there to give him a bit of his own medicine.

Police stressed that expressing libel and insults and damaging property are violations of the law. “In addition if you take action yourself, that might influence the punishment the Justice system gives a suspect,” police said.
