Ajax take 33rd championship

Jasper Cillessen, keeper for Ajax, provided his team with the 33rd championship on Sunday when he saved two goals from Heracles Almelo. The match ended equal with 1-1. Cillessen, from Groesbeek, has won two titles as second goal-keeper. "I have a much bigger share in this success than the last two years", he says. The keeper almost left to Roda JC last Summer. "I wanted to play", Cillessen said. He had difficulty being with the Amsterdam team, as he was constantly far from his family in Gelderland. Now, his girlfriend lives with him, and he goes through life as first goal-keeper. "I have a good year behind me" he says. "This is what I came to Ajax for." After the draw against Heracles Almelo, Cillessen saw his mother in the stands. He walked up to her and gave her a bouquet of flowers. "Her and my father are my biggest supporters", he said. "They are always there, even when it wasn't going so well." Cillessen was not proud of the way in which his team stole the title. For the last bit of the game, Ajax and Heracles played the ball haphazardly around for a while. Ajax was happy with the title, whereas for Heracles, the tie means another year of eredivisie matches. "I only realized in the last 5 minutes that it was all good" Cillessen said. "Our public cheered and they played the ball in the back through each other's legs." Next week, Cillessen will have to play the last competition match against his old club NEC. "I haven't heard anything yet, but what concerns me, I'll play. I've sat on the bench long enough."
